Montana Main Street Program

History of Montana Main Street
The Montana Main Street Program was established in 2005 by the 59th Montana Legislature. The Program was initiated in July, 2005, under the management of the Montana Department of Commerce Business Resources Division and funded for two years with gas tax dollars.
The Program’s accomplishments over the first year have been numerous as the following partial list shows:
- Established a physical office location with required support and equipment.
- Hired Program Coordinator.
- Established organization responsibilities and procedures.
- Conducted Application Workshops in three locations statewide.
- Selected three (3) 2006 Main Street Pilot Programs and registered them as Montana Main Street Designated Programs.
- Selected one (1) 2007 Main Street Pilot Program and registered it as a Montana Main Street Designated Program.
- Identified three (3) existing Main Street Programs and registered them as Montana Main Street Designated Programs.
- Selected four (4) Main Street Affiliate Programs.
- Developed a Training and Implementation Plan for Montana Main Street Communities.
- Conducted Start-up Visits with Pilot Program Communities.
- Conducted Assessment Visits with Existing Main Street Communities.
- Montana Main Street coordinator and one representative from each Designated Program attended the National Trust Main Street Conference.
- Participated in the Montana Preservation Workshop as a presenter and co-sponsor.
